Jenna McLean’s debut album Brighter Day encompasses everything that a true jazz musician should present [...] She abandons the path of the lounge songstress, instead programming her album like a horn player.

Brighter Day

Brighter Day, Jenna McLean’s debut album as bandleader, is comprised of arrangements of celebrated jazz compositions with Jenna's own original lyrics that together recognize the remarkable resilience of the human spirit amidst a turbulent world. The album pays tribute to many of the most influential jazz artists including Wayne Shorter, Carmen McRae, Stan Getz and others, and the title track is an original composition of Jenna’s.

“I recognizes the privilege I have to use lyrics to communicate tomy audience and I’m passionate about bringing creativity and integrity to lyrics in the jazz idiom: a truly honest form of expression. The goal for this record is to display the array of feelings humans must experience in order to grow and thrive— fear and doubt often move us toward action, and our actions can lead us to experiencing laughter and love, regardless of the current state of things in our crazy world. The band for the release show is the original band from the record and includes Steve Kovalcheck on guitar, Tom Amend on piano, Seth Lewis on bass and Brian Claxton on the drums. These musicians are humbling, inspiring, hilarious and above all my great friends and I am honored to have recorded this project with them. ”
